Above all things, I thoroughly enjoyed this book as that rare thing: a well-written, thought-provoking and action-packed read. I loved the fact that the tension is sustained from the first page to the last. There is plenty of action, but not at the expense of characterisation. The characters, with all their believable strengths and weaknesses, will stay in my memory for a long time to come. I was particularly moved by the author's portrayal of the Inuits, which never becomes simplistic or patronising, conveying as it does their wisdom and resilience as well as their ability to grasp what's going on in the world of 'progress'. I am looking forward to Alan Dale's next book!
